Massage Therapy

Often used as a complement to physiotherapy at our clinics as well as a standalone treatment for many conditions, massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints. The service is performed by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). They are regulated health care professionals

Therapeutic massage works by increasing circulation to injured areas. This helps reduce swelling and increases the supply of nutrients required for healing. Also, following an injury like a sprained ankle or whiplash, the body often forms tiny matted clusters of scar tissue called adhesions as it repairs itself. These fibres can actually prevent good healing and make movements painful or “tight.” Therapeutic massage helps block scar tissue formation or, in the case of older injuries, makes the tissue more flexible or elastic.

The following is a list of conditions for which massage therapy, when provided by a Registered Massage Therapist, can prove beneficial:
  • Back, leg and neck pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome/Tendonitis/ Repetitive strain injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Edema/swelling
  • Headaches
  • Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and bursitis
  • Kyphosis and Scoliosis
